What a season for Geesala Boxing Club
Posted by snickers on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 (21:26:22) (567 reads)
Well what can I say,it's been a fantastic season for our Club, after Pat Timlin winning our first title back in March,We continued on with Louise Donohue taking the Girl 2 50kg All Ireland in a thriller which had the whole of the Stadium on their feet,Louise was unbelievably behind by 5 points after the first round but went on to win the bout 9-7,surely a prospect for 2012 Olympics in England, next in was Anthony Coyle who had stopped his man in the first round of the quarter final, beat his next northern opponent Tyrone Mckenna 12-0 in the semi, and in the final beat belfast opponent Paul Maguire 5-1,Anthony's performances over the Boy 3 Championships were different class and surely had to be main contender for the Best Boxer award. The cadets were next and this is where David Timlin had the oppurtunity to avenge his loss against Murphy from Gorey in the Boy 3 Final, Well David did it in style defeating Murphy by 14 points to 4,David has only lost one fight in all of 12 bouts and that was in an All Ireland final,a phenonomal record.onto the All Ireland Juniors, Where David Barrett had a point to prove to himself, club, family and friends that after travelling up to Dublin on numerous occasions before, and ending in disappointment, these Championships were going to be different,he stepped up another gear in training, and sharpened up his boxing style, and concentrated on the basics, what an All Irelands David had, winning 13-1 in the pre lim,11-6 in the quarter,8-3 in the semi final and beating his Frenchpark opponent Matt Sullivan 14-5,David was speechless unable to come to terms that after all these years he was finally an Irish Champion and deservedly so,as he is a fantastic lad and brilliant with all the young boxers in our club,Then onto Liverpool England where Anthony Coyle was representing his Country against England, things were'nt going too well for the rest of the Irish Team,But they had saved the best to last,Anthony was up against English Champion Gino Jones from Bedworth,Before they touched gloves Gino did a bit of nasseem hamed shuffle, but Anthony was told not to be to worried about it in a good old fashioned Geesala way,the final score was a victory to Anthony by 6 hits to 1,but the true score would surely have been 12-0,Of Anthonys last 9 bouts he has accumalated 39 hits for,and conceded 4, with 3 first round stoppages,Unbelievable record.I said it before and I will say it again,What a season for Geesala Boxing Club,GEESALA GO'S FOR GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLD!!!!!!! Check out all the pics on the Gallery.

Another All Ireland title for Geesala Boxing Club
Posted by contributor on Monday, March 10, 2008 (22:38:50) (378 reads)
Pat Timlin added Title number 22 to Geesala Boxing Club, taking the Youth 1 86kg weight class in the National Stadium Dublin last Saturday evening, defeating Michael Coffey from Kerry,Pat boxed very well throwing good right left jab combinations, keeping his southpaw Munster opponent at long range,Pat was always ahead in the fight, also giving Coffey a count in the third round, taking the contest by a commanding 15-9 verdict,on the Friday night in the semi final Pat took on a tough opponent from Connemara Martin Kinneally,It was toe to toe action with Pat taking the bout on a 13-10 scoreline, all in all a brilliant night for Pat,the Club and his family, Check out all the pics in the gallery section of the site. There was great celebrations on the Sunday night with bonfires lit from Corrick to Glenamoy for the homecoming of the latest All Ireland Champion.Congrats to Katie Rowland and Ballycroy Boxing Club on winning their All Ireland,Its fantastic to see the only Mayo winners of All Irelands coming to the barony of Erris. On another note the weigh ins and boxing for the Connachts girls and boys 1,2,3, took place in St Annes of Westport yesterday, the only boxer entering the ring for us was Darren the Dazzler Timlin, unfortunately losing on a controversial 5-4 scoreline, all in attendance were shocked with the result, even the opposing corner thinking they had lost the bout, but Darren will bounce back next year with a vengeance.Good luck to all Geesala boxers in next weekends semis and finals,Louise Donohue recieved a walkover and will represent us in the All Irelands later this Month,Good luck Louise and bring home the GOLD!!!!!!

Belmullet and Olympic Tournaments
Posted by contributor on Wednesday, December 05, 2007 (23:38:58) (569 reads)
Darren Timlin was in a big hurry to get his fight out of the way in Belmullet on Saturday night stopping his Ardnaree opponent in the first minute of the first round, David Barrett and Brendan Masterson were not in the best of form on the night losing their bouts, but made up for it on the Sunday in the Olympic gym Galway with far better displays of boxing, all the 20 boxers performed well on the day, some getting the decisions and others not getting the nod of approval from the judges, Still this should put them in good shape for the upcoming Geesala Tournament in Teach Iorrais Hotel on Saturday 5th January 2008....

Ardnaree Tournament
Posted by snickers on Saturday, November 24, 2007 (14:05:11) (412 reads)
We travelled to Ardnaree on Friday night for their Tournament, Darren Timlin was first in, Darren boxed very well catching his southpaw opponent Dean foody with accurate right left jab combinations, winning his contest by unanimous decision, you can see darren on our Photo gallery section of the site. Next in was David Barrett boxing John Tighe from Ballymote Co.Sligo, Tighe was a very tough hard hitting boxer, the first round was very scrappy, but David settled in the second round and concentrated on his boxing, David probably edged the first round, but won the second and third round confidently, check out Davids short video clip on our links page, another good night for Geesala Boxing Club. On another note, unfortuately Kyle Holmes picked up an injury prior to the Intermediate championships and was unable to take part, This was a major blow to Kyle who was hotly tipped to take the title this year at his respective weight class, hopefully we will see Kyle back in the ring again shortly......

St Annes Tournament
Posted by contributor on Monday, November 19, 2007 (16:29:35) (331 reads)
Geesala had two lads in the ring on Sunday, Liam Ginty was in the ring first, giving his opponent Paul Corcoran no chance to settle, coming out on top in all exchanges and winning by a Unanimous decision. As I said in the last report John Reilly could only improve, well he certainly did, with a good solid left jab keeping young Peter Collins at long range, and also taking his contest by a Unanimous decision...
