Anthony Coyles European Exploits
Posted by contributor on Thursday, July 08, 2010 (21:14:13) (26 reads)
Anthony Coyle did his Club and Country proud in Europe, taking the silver medal in the Presidents Cup in Baku, Azerbijan, these Championships brought the cream of European youth boxers together in one venue, the competition was dominated by east european entrants,Anthony had a great start defeating the uzbechistan champion in the pre-lims,in the quarter final he met a russian also overpowering him with body shots, this win guaranteed a bronze medal at least, but Anthony was going for gold,in the semi he fought another russian,Anthony boxed very smart winning on a 4-1 margin, guaranteeing Silver, next day was final day against the Ukrainian champion, after boxing every single day of these Championships and feeling a little drained and with flu symptoms,Anthony headed into the fight not at a 100%,but after two and half rounds the two boxers were level on points, and with 10 seconds to go the Ukrainian was given a score to the dismay of all in attendance, giving the Gold to the Ukrainian,Anthony had won the Silver,a fantastic achievement to the lad from Geesala boxing club, next up was the European Youth Championships in Ukraine,Anthony was given the honour of captaining the Irish Team, training had gone well and Coyle was looking forward to going one better and taking the Gold, but tragedy struck the day before the Championships with Anthony breaking a toe and unable to compete,he was devastated, but Anthony will have plenty of chances to show off his boxing skills in the future,on another note the russian who anthony defeated in the Presidents Cup went onto take the Gold Medal,we can only dream of what could have been a crowning moment to one of Irelands elite youth boxers..see pics on the photo gallery.....

Geesala Boxing Club celebrated by taking 5 titles in the National Stadium at the weekend,Nicola Lynch was first in the ring taking on Ann Connors from Ryston, this was Nicolas first time in the ring,it was a very close contest with Nicola boxing well but having recieved a warning, this took her title chance just beyond her reach,Nicola will be back to claim a title in the future,Louise Donohoe recieved a walkover but she will be competing in the senior cadets in a few weeks time taking on the Youth 1 champion, next in was Anthony Coyle against Conor Doherty of Holy Trinity Belfast,Doherty was a very tough opponent throwing lots of hooks and straight right hands but Anthony settled well and started picking off his opponent with right jabs and left hooks winning the contest 5-3,Anthony is a highly rated and respected boxer by the IABA heirachy and is sure to be competing at a lot of European Contests this year, David Timlin had a great contest against Duggan of St Annes Westport,David boxed well throwing strong left jabs and right jabs catching Duggan off balance and scoring well, this was an exceptional win for David after carrying a long term injury into these Finals,Hopefully David will get the opportunity to wear the Irish vest at some stage this year along with Anthony,In the Youth 2 Finals Katie Rowland took on Shauna Ward from Sean Mcdermots Leitrim,Katie was superb throwing great left and right jab combinations and running out an easy 15-3 winner,Katie is also a contender for the Irish vest,Michelle Lynch took her Title by Walkover also, but she is chomping at the bit to strut her stuff in the upcoming juniors in May as is Katie and Josie Conroy,Joanna lally was making her debut in Dublin but she came up against European Medalist Sarah Close of Belfast,Close won but this was a great experience for Joanna, all in all a Great Championships for Geesala Boxing Club and Hopefully we can add a few more before the end of the boxing season.Hope to have a selection of videos of these finals up on you tube before the end of the week...Also should have some pics up on the gallery soon....

Leon takes Title number 13
Posted by admin on Monday, May 25, 2009 (18:57:54) (272 reads)
The season came to an end in the National Stadium with literally a bang, with our 48kg giant Leon Lynch stopping his Northern opponent Blaine Dobbins, from St Josephs Derry in the second round, the bout started very cagily with Leon settling in nicely sussing out the southpaw style,Leon was 2-1 down after the 1st,but we had done our homework on Dobbins, leading with the right was'nt working to well in the first,so plan B came into action,in the 2nd Leon used his reach advantage and started using his left jab, lining up the big right,in our eyes he was scoring sweet with the jab but the judges still seemed to be giving the scores to his opponent, that was enough,Leon pushed forward landing big lefts and rights, his opponent getting 3 counts in the round, that was enough for Leon landing his 3rd all Ireland with a stoppage, what a way to end the season leon taking the 13th title for Geesala Boxing Club,Josie Conroy was very unlucky to go out in the early stages of the Competition, this was due mainly to the competition coinciding with her tour to France,Josie will overcome this mishap and will surely take more titles for Geesala in the future.....Check out our pics in the Gallery.
